The relationship between Nintendo of America and Amazon.com has certainly hit a rough patch. A recent report sheds light on the factors behind the fallout, as the two giants grappled with issues that led to Amazon missing out on the highly anticipated launch of the Nintendo Switch 2. It appears that Nintendo took issue with third-party sellers on Amazon who were undercutting their prices by purchasing games in bulk from Southeast Asia and reselling them in the U.S. for less than the suggested retail price. Frustrated by Amazon's inaction to curb this practice, Nintendo ultimately made the decision to withdraw its products from the platform. Both companies, however, have rejected the claims made in the report.
“Amazon tried to assuage Nintendo by offering to attach labels to products that guarantee they’re authentic. Amazon uses the technique to assure shoppers products aren’t counterfeits and to help it track merchandise. But the offer wasn’t sufficient, the person said, and Nintendo ultimately opted to pull its products from Amazon in the US.”
