Switch 2's Cyberpunk 2077: An Ambitious Upgrade Inspired by PS4?

In an exciting revelation, GameFile recently conversed with Tim Green, one of the skilled engineers at CD Projekt Red, about the highly anticipated Nintendo Switch 2 port of the beloved open-world action title, Cyberpunk 2077. Green shared insights on how the team is leveraging the foundation built from the PlayStation 4 version to create an unparalleled experience on the Switch 2.

“Our aim is to achieve a crisp 1080p resolution in TV quality mode, alongside performance options for both TV and handheld,” Green stated. “For those playing on-the-go, we're targeting 720p performance in handheld mode.”

When docked, the Switch 2 reveals more processing power, he continued, “but we also ensure that even on the move, players can enjoy the benefits of Deep Learning Super Sampling (DLSS).”

“Cyberpunk 2077 has undergone a remarkable transformation with constant updates and enhancements,” Green emphasized. “With the Ultimate Edition launching on Nintendo Switch 2, we could build off that impressive foundation.”

Of course, development came with its own set of hurdles, but Green reassured, “We’ve made strategic choices to maintain the game's original vision without cutting corners.”

“Fortunately, we didn't face significant memory constraints,” he added. “The improved speed of data storage has mitigated many of the early streaming issues, allowing us to concentrate on enhancing other aspects of the game. We’re thrilled with the outcomes.”

“We’re integrating a version of DLSS tailored for Nintendo Switch 2's hardware, equipped with Nvidia’s Tensor cores,” he explained. “This technology is utilized across all four modes—whether you're in handheld or docked, and regardless of performance or quality settings.”
