In a thrilling reveal during the Nintendo Direct focused on the Nintendo Switch 2, fans were taken aback by the announcement of Star Wars Outlaws. Currently, this ambitious title is exclusive to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
Richard Leadbetter, the technology editor at Digital Foundry, expressed his astonishment, stating, "I think this one’s quite surprising, to be honest, Star Wars Outlaws. This is like a technologically demanding game on the new Snowdrop engine for Ubisoft Massive. The concept that it’s running on this class of hardware is pretty mind-blowing, I’d say."
Adding to the excitement, Digital Foundry contributor Oliver Mackenzie remarked that Star Wars Outlaws represents "a really exciting port, possibly an impossible port, if you will." He emphasized the game's scale and advanced features like ray tracing, noting the absence of a PS4 version while other major titles like Elden Ring and Street Fighter 6 made their way to previous-generation consoles.
Lastly, Digital Foundry's video producer Alex Battaglia crowned Star Wars Outlaws as "by far the most technically ambitious game that we’ve seen mentioned as having been ported to Switch 2, like by far."
