Exciting news for gamers! If you've been itching to dive into thrilling Mario Kart World battles with your pals but found your old webcam isn't quite up to snuff with the Nintendo Switch 2, you’re in luck! Two leading webcam manufacturers are stepping up to make your gaming experience even better. Ugreen and Elgato have rolled up their sleeves and are set to release firmware updates that will enable their webcams to seamlessly connect with the Nintendo Switch 2. Here’s what you need to know to get your webcam operational with this new console:
- The camera must avoid using the HID protocol.
- The camera should be set for Isochronous transfer mode (as opposed to Bulk, which can drain resources).
- The USB endpoint descriptors should not support low frame rate settings (below 30 fps).
However, there’s a bit of a twist! Elgato’s camera might have inadvertently tripped over Ugreen’s third hypothetical rule. Reports indicate that it communicates with devices like the Switch 2, claiming the capability to run as low as 5 fps across various resolutions. Ugreen confirms that while the Switch 2 could opt for these lower settings, if the camera isn't equipped to handle them, it may result in a failure.
Elgato, however, sees things differently. “While Ugreen's perspective is mostly on point, I believe their stance on low frame rates doesn't hold,” they stated.
