Gaming Legend Gregg Mayles Bids Farewell to Rare After 35 Extraordinary Years!

In a surprising twist within the gaming landscape, today’s shocking Microsoft news reveals that legendary game designer Gregg Mayles has officially exited Rare after an incredible tenure of over 35 years. Mayles played a pivotal role in crafting some of Rare’s most beloved classics on the Super Nintendo and Nintendo 64, including the iconic Donkey Kong Country and the whimsical Banjo-Kazooie. In a similar vein, Louise O’Connor, another esteemed veteran of Rare, is also set to leave the studio, having made her mark with projects like Conker’s Bad Fur Day.

“He became one of the British studio’s most prolific and celebrated game directors, steering the ship on Donkey Kong Country and its follow-ups, Banjo-Kazooie and Tooie, as well as Grabbed by the Ghoulies and Viva Pinata. Under Microsoft’s flag, he also contributed to Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts and Kinect Sports, while serving as the creative force behind the live service phenomenon, Sea of Thieves. Throughout his illustrious career at Rare, Mayles has been involved with nearly 30 titles.”
