In a recent article, Games Industry delves into the world of indie games on the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2, highlighting a notable absence of these titles. A prominent developer suggests that Nintendo is strategically withholding development kits for indie developers who require more robust hardware—something beyond the capabilities of the original Switch console. While some indie games, like No Man’s Sky, have enjoyed a successful launch, others are still waiting for their moment in the spotlight. Let's hope that the demand soon aligns with the supply!
According to Gowland, Nintendo seems to be focusing on distributing Switch 2 development kits to titles that wouldn’t be feasible on the earlier model. “The indie folks I know who have successfully secured kits are developing games that really need the extra power the Switch 2 provides,” he explains.
He elaborates, “I think, because of the extensive backwards compatibility, their [Nintendo’s] main focus right now is on supplying kits for games that don’t have an original Switch version in development – at least, that’s the impression we got while inquiring about Into the Restless Ruins.”
