Nintendo legend Masahiro Sakurai has shared a heartfelt update regarding his latest endeavor, Kirby Air Riders, set to launch on the anticipated Nintendo Switch 2. In a touching message, Sakurai reveals that he’s been “pouring his heart” into crafting the most exceptional gaming experience for fans. He also took a moment to honor the memories of the late Satoru Iwata, Nintendo’s beloved president, who tragically passed away on this very day a decade ago. Our thoughts remain with his family, friends, and colleagues during this poignant remembrance. Here’s what Sakurai expressed to his followers on X:
Today was the Japanese release date of Kirby Air Ride on the GameCube. It is now on its 22nd anniversary! At the same time, it is also the anniversary of Iwata’s passing in 2015.

Ten years have passed since then… Iwata and I were about ten years apart in age. I’ll be catching up to him in age now, won’t I?
Right now, I’m pouring my heart into making Kirby Air Riders. It’s shaping up to be something great!
A huge thank you to Greatsong1 for the tip-off!
