Final Fantasy III: More Frequent Desperation Attacks is a modification for the Super Nintendo version of Final Fantasy III. This patch set enhances the frequency of Desperation Attacks, increasing their occurrence rate from 1/16 to 1/8. It introduces additional adjustments such as higher HP thresholds for Near Fatal status and removes timers and restrictions on attack frequency, thereby allowing characters to trigger Desperation Attacks more frequently.
This is a pair of patches that offer options to make Desperation Attacks occur more often than in the vanilla game.
The first patch, "More Frequent DAs", simply increases the odds of a Desperation Attack occuring from 1/16 to 1/8.
The second patch, "Less Restrictive DAs", also increases the odds by the same amount and has three other tweaks. Near Fatal status occurs at a higher HP threshold (1/4 HP instead of 1/8), the timer that prevents Desperation Attacks from occuring during the first 25 seconds of a battle is removed, and the check that restricts a character's Desperation Attack to once per battle is removed. These changes mean that a character will be in a position to trigger a Desperation Attack more often.
Note that Desperation Attacks themselves are not changed, only the mechanics by which they trigger.
Included with the download is a Read Me file on what hex values were changed to make these changes, if any other modders wish to adopt some of these mechanics for themselves.
