Final Fantasy II: Project II: Final Fantasy IV is a fan-made enhancement of the original Final Fantasy II for Super Nintendo, released in 1991. This project dramatically rewrites the game's script, restoring missing content and addressing various issues like lag and sound. It features an updated title screen, new gameplay mechanics, and bug fixes, providing an experience suitable for modern players while maintaining the essence of the original game.
Project II: Final Fantasy IV is an extensive script rewrite and enhancement of Final Fantasy II for Super Nintendo, made largely with Pinkpuff's http://www.romhacking.net/utilities/914/.
FFII released in 1991 with a subpar script; through the years Final Fantasy IV has seen many others, but most ports of the game have issues pertaining to load times, lag, and sound. There are also several useful patches exclusive to the Super NES version. With Project II, FFII is transformed into an experience palatable for the modern gamer.

GENERAL:
- Entirely rewritten script that takes elements from many versions of FFIV.
- Restores almost all missing content. For example: commands Pray, Salve, Recall; items Soma Drop,
Firebomb; spells Armor, Shell. Shops have original inventories and prices. Enemies drop original
items. Etc.
- Reverts censored map graphics and stripping dancer in Town of Baron.
- Implements updated title logo by Paladin that reads "FINAL FANTASY IV" in the FFII US logo style.
- Bonus appendices to aid the player's FFIV adventure. They are not required to play.

Heal command restores 64-96 HP per character.

Regen command restores 255 HP at fixed intervals. Tweaked to restore 160 HP and no longer freeze
FuSoYa in place.
- Revised Rosa's menu portrait, combining the hair of the SNES original with the ponytail of FFIV
Pixel Remaster.
- Cecil (Paladin) and Rydia (Little) now learn their additional white magic from the 3D Remake.
- Pray has a 70% chance to work; casts Cure2 if successful.
- Cry reduces enemy Magic Defense according to half of Porom's Will rating.

- Cid has a new command, Smog. It inflicts a small amount of non-elemental damage on all enemies,

- All bows receive Hit +10%.
- Weapon Artemis Bow deals 4x damage to dragons.
- Armor Heroine Robe only gives +10 to Strength, Agility, Vitality, but the -15 penalties to Wisdom
and Will are removed.
- Items Cure3 Potions, Sirens can be bought from the Hummingway Home.
- Cecil (Dark Knight) can wear more equipment; basically, everything that Cecil (Paladin) can use
aside from bows, arrows, mage robes, and light-elemental equipment.
- Made dummied weapons HandAxe and Assassin Dagger legitimately obtainable.

BUG FIXES:
- [Applied Patch] Long Range Fix (Dragoon ZERO)
If a character switched from a long-range weapon to a short-range weapon, they used to keep the
prior weapon's long-range status. Fixed.
- [Applied Patch] Critical Hit Fix (chillyfeez, Grimoire LD)
Characters used to be able to permanently lose ability to deal critical hits. Fixed.
- [Applied Patch] Immune Byte Bugfixes (Grimoire LD)
Armor passive ability Elementproof had two forms of incorrect behavior:
1. It incorrectly gave Evade +99%.
2. After removing the armor with Elementproof (Adamant Armor in OG FFIV), the character would
gain a weakness to fire, ice, and lightning.
These are both now fixed.

Esper Sylph properly reduces Rydia's MP, regardless of her placement in line-up.
- Fixed item decrement bug. Now giving a key item to an NPC (e.g. SandRuby -> Rosa, Pink Tail ->

- Trying to equip a two-handed weapon while equipped with something else in one or both hands used

- Fixed bug where players could skip the Sealed Cave by casting Warp in the Dwarf Castle throne

- Completely rewrote script. I had a lot of fun improving Moriyama's dry script. My overall goal was
to bridge Phil Sandhop's Final Fantasy with Ted Woolsey's Final Fantasy VI, and I pulled
inspiration from various FFIV translations. In particular, Cid was a blast to write for. (No pun
intended.)
- Altered enemy names, partially inspired by the mod Paladin's Final Fantasy IV.
- Removed the tail icon to use as a space in item names.
- Fixed the inconsistent RHand and LHand labels in battle.
- Replaced the circled S Save Points with the five-pointed stars from the original Sylph Cave.
- Reverted NPC dancer sprite.
- Reverted Tower of Zot's steel orb sprite to its original scythe.
- Tellah starts with 98 MP.
- Weapons CrossBow and Lit Arrows can now be bought in Baron Town's weapon shop.
- FireClaw, IceClaw, Thunder Claw now cost same amount of GP.
- Taken from FFIV: Easy Type, the Hit of all bows is now +10%.
- Taken from FFIV: Easy Type, weapon Artemis Bow deals 4x damage to dragons.
- Command Pray casts Cure2 now instead of Cure1, and has a 60% chance of working.
- Armor Black Robe gives +5 WIS instead of WIL.
- All chest contents replaced with their original contents. Replaced one chest that originally
contained a Cure2 Potion with the Magazine.
- Enemies drop their original items. All Imp-types, Bomb-types, and Cockatrice-types can now drop
their respective summons.
- Paladin Cecil's leg armor no longer vanishes during his walking frames.
- Removed an NPC to restore the second Dwarf Castle item shop.
- The Hummingway Home item shop now sells Sirens instead of the Scan item, and Cure3 Potions instead
of Cure2 Potions.

Reflections [REF4]

This is something of a passion project; ever since I was a kid, I'd always wanted to update the
script of FFII US. It seemed unnecessary due to J2e's patch, but it came to light that oftentimes
the group lifted from Kaoru Moriyama's translation, in addition to inserting inappropriate
references and jokes. While we had the superior 3D remake at this time, I knew some craved to
experience Final Fantasy IV as the Super Nintendo classic it is--just, with a better script.
While this desire stewed in my head, Pinkpuff released her fantastic utility FF4kster. I took it and
ran with it, and, well, here we are. I faced many trials and tribulations to get that first release
out back in 2013, and everyone in the credits knows that fact. I couldn't have released this without
their help. Thank you, everyone.
And to the player--I truly hope you enjoy this labor of my love. Thank you so much for playing

- Entirely rewritten script that takes elements from many versions of FFIV.
- Restores almost all missing content. For example: commands Pray, Salve, Recall; items Soma Drop,
Firebomb; spells Armor, Shell. Shops have original inventories and prices. Enemies drop original
items. Etc.
- Reverts censored map graphics and stripping dancer in Town of Baron.
- Implements updated title logo by Paladin that reads "FINAL FANTASY IV" in the FFII US logo style.
- Bonus appendices to aid the player's FFIV adventure. They are not required to play.

- Revised Rosa's menu portrait, combining the hair of the SNES original with the ponytail of FFIV
Pixel Remaster.
- Cecil (Paladin) and Rydia (Little) now learn their additional white magic from the 3D Remake.
- Pray has a 70% chance to work; casts Cure2 if successful.
- Cry reduces enemy Magic Defense according to half of Porom's Will rating.

- Cid has a new command, Smog. It inflicts a small amount of non-elemental damage on all enemies,

- All bows receive Hit +10%.
- Weapon Artemis Bow deals 4x damage to dragons.
- Armor Heroine Robe only gives +10 to Strength, Agility, Vitality, but the -15 penalties to Wisdom
and Will are removed.
- Items Cure3 Potions, Sirens can be bought from the Hummingway Home.
- Cecil (Dark Knight) can wear more equipment; basically, everything that Cecil (Paladin) can use
aside from bows, arrows, mage robes, and light-elemental equipment.
- Made dummied weapons HandAxe and Assassin Dagger legitimately obtainable.

BUG FIXES:
- [Applied Patch] Long Range Fix (Dragoon ZERO)
If a character switched from a long-range weapon to a short-range weapon, they used to keep the
prior weapon's long-range status. Fixed.
- [Applied Patch] Critical Hit Fix (chillyfeez, Grimoire LD)
Characters used to be able to permanently lose ability to deal critical hits. Fixed.
- [Applied Patch] Immune Byte Bugfixes (Grimoire LD)
Armor passive ability Elementproof had two forms of incorrect behavior:
1. It incorrectly gave Evade +99%.
2. After removing the armor with Elementproof (Adamant Armor in OG FFIV), the character would
gain a weakness to fire, ice, and lightning.
These are both now fixed.

Esper Sylph properly reduces Rydia's MP, regardless of her placement in line-up.
- Fixed item decrement bug. Now giving a key item to an NPC (e.g. SandRuby -> Rosa, Pink Tail ->

- Trying to equip a two-handed weapon while equipped with something else in one or both hands used

- Fixed bug where players could skip the Sealed Cave by casting Warp in the Dwarf Castle throne

- Completely rewrote script. I had a lot of fun improving Moriyama's dry script. My overall goal was
to bridge Phil Sandhop's Final Fantasy with Ted Woolsey's Final Fantasy VI, and I pulled
inspiration from various FFIV translations. In particular, Cid was a blast to write for. (No pun
intended.)
- Altered enemy names, partially inspired by the mod Paladin's Final Fantasy IV.
- Removed the tail icon to use as a space in item names.
- Fixed the inconsistent RHand and LHand labels in battle.
- Replaced the circled S Save Points with the five-pointed stars from the original Sylph Cave.
- Reverted NPC dancer sprite.
- Reverted Tower of Zot's steel orb sprite to its original scythe.
- Tellah starts with 98 MP.
- Weapons CrossBow and Lit Arrows can now be bought in Baron Town's weapon shop.
- FireClaw, IceClaw, Thunder Claw now cost same amount of GP.
- Taken from FFIV: Easy Type, the Hit of all bows is now +10%.
- Taken from FFIV: Easy Type, weapon Artemis Bow deals 4x damage to dragons.
- Command Pray casts Cure2 now instead of Cure1, and has a 60% chance of working.
- Armor Black Robe gives +5 WIS instead of WIL.
- All chest contents replaced with their original contents. Replaced one chest that originally
contained a Cure2 Potion with the Magazine.
- Enemies drop their original items. All Imp-types, Bomb-types, and Cockatrice-types can now drop
their respective summons.
- Paladin Cecil's leg armor no longer vanishes during his walking frames.
- Removed an NPC to restore the second Dwarf Castle item shop.
- The Hummingway Home item shop now sells Sirens instead of the Scan item, and Cure3 Potions instead
of Cure2 Potions.

Reflections [REF4]
===========
This is something of a passion project; ever since I was a kid, I'd always wanted to update the
script of FFII US. It seemed unnecessary due to J2e's patch, but it came to light that oftentimes
the group lifted from Kaoru Moriyama's translation, in addition to inserting inappropriate
references and jokes. While we had the superior 3D remake at this time, I knew some craved to
experience Final Fantasy IV as the Super Nintendo classic it is--just, with a better script.
While this desire stewed in my head, Pinkpuff released her fantastic utility FF4kster. I took it and
ran with it, and, well, here we are. I faced many trials and tribulations to get that first release
out back in 2013, and everyone in the credits knows that fact. I couldn't have released this without
their help. Thank you, everyone.
And to the player--I truly hope you enjoy this labor of my love. Thank you so much for playing
Project II: Final Fantasy IV.
